Tiffany Michele Goines vanished from Frederick
Welcome to Crimes Against Innocence.
I’m your host, Danielle Fausz, and today we’re going back to December 5th, 1987 — the day 12-year-old Tiffany Michele Goines vanished from Frederick, Maryland, and never came home.
She was just a cheerful, helpful sixth-grader who loved to run errands for her neighbors and spend time with her friends.
That morning, Tiffany left her family’s apartment at the John Hanson Apartments on North Bentz Street. She told her mother she was going to visit a friend and do a few quick errands. She promised to be back by dinner.
She never returned.
Witnesses reported seeing Tiffany getting into a vehicle — either a red convertible or possibly a light blue two-door Chevrolet Impala. The license plate reportedly began with the letters GH and ended in 22.
No one has ever confirmed who was behind the wheel.
When Tiffany didn’t come home for dinner, her mother began to worry. By 9 p.m., she was out searching the neighborhood, calling her daughter’s name in the dark.
But back then, police required families to wait 24 hours before filing a missing-person report — a delay that likely cost valuable time.
Tiffany was described as a small girl — just five feet tall and seventy-eight pounds — wearing large brown-framed glasses and her hair in braids.
She had a lazy left eye that turned slightly inward, making her appearance distinctive. She was last seen wearing a blue jacket, blue cotton pants, and white sneakers without laces.
At school, Tiffany was a student at Governor Thomas Johnson Middle School. Teachers said she was polite and hardworking. Her mother described her as kindhearted, always offering to help the people around her.
In the years that followed, her mother never gave up hope. For nearly twenty years, she slept in the living room of their apartment — just in case Tiffany came knocking on the door in the middle of the night.
Even when the John Hanson Apartments were demolished in 2005, she stayed in Frederick, unable to leave the place where her daughter was last seen.
Police have investigated multiple leads — vehicles matching the description, possible witnesses, even age-progressed images of Tiffany as an adult. But despite all the searches, no trace of her has ever been found.
Today, Tiffany Michele Goines would be turning 50 years old this December.
Her case remains one of Maryland’s most heartbreaking unsolved disappearances.
Authorities still believe she was abducted — but whether she’s alive somewhere or her story ended that day, no one knows.
If you lived in or around Frederick, Maryland in 1987…
do you remember seeing a red convertible or blue Impala that day?
Someone out there may still hold the missing piece of the puzzle.
This is Crimes Against Innocence, and I’m Danielle Fausz.
If you believe every missing child deserves to be found — share Tiffany’s story.
Because justice delayed doesn’t have to mean justice denied.
